The region boasts some of the best hiking in Spain. From the villages there are plenty of trails. It is also possible to climb the high peaks of the Sierra Nevada National Park. The Sierra Nevada range has more than twenty peaks over 3000 metres. Two of the most popular options are Veleta, 3,398 metres and Mulhacén which, at 3,481 metres, is the highest point of the Iberian Peninsula.
